Drugs seized in Durban

KwaZulu-Natal police have seized drugs with a street value of about R1.1 million and arrested eight men in the Durban CBD

Five men, in their late 20s, were arrested in Russell Street on Wednesday by police acting on a tip off, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

Each was found peddling a number of straws of heroin.

Two others were arrested in Broad Steet — one with 400 hundred straws of heroin and the other with 6000 straws.

An eighth man was arrested at a flat in North Beach with 6000 straws of heroin.

“We seized a number of plastic packets and a five litre plastic bucket containing large quantities of tablets, capsules, straws and powder,” Naicker said.

A BMW station wagon was also impounded and R48,000 believed to be the proceeds of drug sales was confiscated.

The men were expected to appear soon in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
