SHE grew up harbouring a dream of being on the airwaves one day. And now she is 25 and enjoying the experience of having realised her childhood dream.

Cynthia N'wa-Mathye of Greater Tzaneen FM (GTFM) in Limpopo, loves sharing ideas with her listeners, especially the youth.

N'wa-Mathye's dream became a reality in February last, year when she landed a job as a radio presenter for GTFM.

That happened a year after completing her studies in journalism at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

She said while she was studying journalism, she realised that her ability to speak well, could put her on the path to achieving her ambition of working in radio.

N'wa-Mathye's first job at GTFM was reading the news.

Today she's proud to have her own afternoon slot every day on weekdays, between 9am and midday. She also reads the news on Saturdays. Her educational weekday shows are an informative guide on careers, household, fashion, health, small businesses development and relationship trends.

She said she was motivated by her former schoolmates at Bankuna High School in NkowaNkowa, near Tzaneen, who keep on calling her to tell her how positively she was influencing the listeners with her show. GTFM can be heard in a 100km radius on the 104.8-FM band.

"I always discuss topics of the day with my listeners - it is also their programme.

"I have also a way of keeping my listeners very close and relate to them in an amazing manner. That is what I mean and stand for," N'wa-Mathye said.
