Bikers unite against abuse

Intrepid motorbikers are nearing the end of a nearly 8,000km trip as part of an anti-abuse campaign

9 COUNTRIES, 15 RIDERS: The bikers are travelling through South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho. The distance is a total of 7,620km

This epic motorcycle ride was organised by Johannesburg Harley-Davidson and UN Women, to create awareness to unite to end violence against Women and Girls during the period 25 November to 10 December 2012.

Promoters said in a statement that Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe is expected to welcome these riders back into SA on Monday December 10 in Rustenburg.

Commenting on their journey so far, Johannesburg rider Werner Puchert  said: "We hope that the lives we’ve touched, the people we’ve met and the impression we left, will give momentum to stop gender-based violence".

"We are happy to ... take part, to make our stand: Real men don’t abuse women and girls,” said fellow rider John Koller.
