Despite the ID error the insurance companies are crooks especially when coming to pay out. Becareful before signing any contract, read it through and understand the hidden clauses of it.

people dont understand these things then in the end they go running to the press... if u read then u will understand!! secondly.. everyone saying that insurance companies are croocks then go to the Umbudsman and see how many cases they win because they make it clear for people in the beginning..

I have a policy with this company, I need to consider it, they might come to say I joined AIG and not Chartis Life, I dont trust them, wish people can stick to local societies/stockvels.

Insurance companies are crooks they always have a reason not to pay out claims whether u understand this things or not, they always make sure u understand the wrong thing so they are covered and will always win those cases.

Back in the day I used to sell AIG products. Sadly, our black parents and grandparents were their target market. Needless to say that half the time the poor "gogos" didn't know what they were buying into. When it came to claiming stage, only about 5% of claims were ever paid. So, whether they call themselves AIG or Chartis Life, they're still a bunch of thieving crooks & should be reported to the ombudsman.

true! people don't read their policy wording..........i bet half of the people who are saying insurance are crooks they do have policies and they don't even know their policy wording( terms and condition).

Aish,its said baba,however i dont understand when you you became aware that the policy you signed was not the one you initially agreed to,in my mind it clearly shows that you did not read the contract properly, and my take is that you signed the forms nje..

Its important guys we read the contents of any contract,understand it,agree to it,then signed.The moment you put your signature on the dotted line...well..it means you read it,you understood it,and you agreed to it..then the onus will be on you at the end to proof otherwise(duress).

You must never sign the document(s) you dont understand.All my contract are written in Sotho,this Engrish,is not ayoba,cos ha ka ya hole sekolong,or get someone to interpret the damn forms..!

When dealing with authorities, always operate on the principle that they will lose your documents. So, do not submit originals - always make copies.

In fact, I also don't see why they need you to courier the original documents. Refuse! At least 'til they tell you what happened to the first set and why copies were ok then and are not ok now.

Remember insurance business is not about paying people in an event of a loss. It is about making money out of fears that individuals have as much as possible and look for any possible reason to decline the payout!!! Very wicked system

This insurance companies are a bunch of greedy moogoes. They always find stupid loop holes as an excuse not to pay. I mean how come it was never an issue when they deduct this guy's monthly payments on incorrect id as they claim. So its only a problem when they have to pay out.

I want to lodge a complain as well with Hollard Insurance, its been nearly 2 months since my mum passed on. I'm still waiting for my claim to be processed, bu twhen they advertise they claim it takes 48 hours to process a claim. Everytime I call I get a different agent with different stories, I have faxed every documents requested and they confirmed they have received them. Last week an agent took my email address and promised to fax a claim form, up until now I have not received anything from them. Can someone help please to lodge this complain, its easy for them to debit our accounts but difficult to pay a claim.

Not all insurance company (crooks).I have join liberty life since 2007.my child and my brother passed away i made my claims ,within 24 hours as long as you have submitted the relevant document tshelete ya tsena.i buried them with that money.

You can say whatever but it is unfortunate that it is a fact that people don't READ their policies.

"Ndaba decided to buy cover for himself and his parents under the impression this was life cover."

That's a bad statement because as much as it is the duty of the insurer to disclose information,it is also the duty of the insured to ask where they are uncertain.

The duty of disclosure (General Condition) also rests with the insured of which here Thulani did not disclose that his mother was having "ID" problems.

Again:

"I did not know that they had sold me accident policies and only got clarity when they rejected my father's death claim,"

Did he ask for clarity,?????????(go figure)

Any agreement where you pay now to get a service later, be very careful. Insurance, life policies, medical aids.......... use a magnifying glass for that fine print. Otherwise u will be bitten in the b.u.t.t.

@ Nexus-Condolences to you and your family.

I'm not sure if your product is short-term or long-term because there are Ombudsmen for each type of insurance in case you're considering approaching one.

Tpaz is right with this one.(Logde complain-arbitrator-Ombudsman)

@ Mgeez,research thoroughly before giving out factual advise because you're saying is a half-baked cake.
