Uyanda Mbuli wins charity auction

SOCIALITE Uyanda Mbuli has proved that she has lasting celebrity power.

Mbuli beat a number of celebrities - including acclaimed publicist Melanie Ramjee, Yfm DJ Dineo Ranaka, Vista Kalipa, Channel O's SK and Nandi Mngoma - in a Twitter auction this week.

The auction was aimed at raising funds for Nappy Run, a national campaign to create public awareness of children with disabilities and to collect nappies for these children.

Nappy Run is an annual campaign held every October, which is accompanied by widespread publicity about the special needs of children with disabilities.

The money raised will be given to Ford SA which is the force behind the initiative. Ford will match up whatever was raised at the auction.

The deal was for the celebrity Twitter followers to bid to have dinner with them.

Mbuli received the highest bid and was auctioned for R2,500, followed by Ramjee who raised R700.

Auction coordinator Denis Phatudi said the bid started at R150 and they were humbled by people's response. He said they had made more than R4,500 for Nappy Run.

"We are touched that there are people out there who are happy to give to charity. We are thankful to the celebrities who gave their time for the good cause."

Mbuli said she was humbled by the fact that her followers were always supportive of her positive initiatives.
