Dress-up dreams come true
Adelaide Manana (18) is a strong young woman who survived abuse that led to a suicide attempt
GONTSE Phalatse and Adelaide Manana have each scored designer ball gowns and Spitz vouchers in the SowetanLive Matric Dance give-away.
Phalatse's entry was submitted by her cousin Veronica Makgale.
"My cousin deserves this dress because she has never given up on her studies - not even when she fell behind as a result of repeating classes," Makgale said.
"She might be older than most kids in her class but that doesn't deter her from pursuing her dream of securing a brighter future through education."
Phalatse, 21, from Klipgat in Pretoria, said she was happy she would have a dress for her big day.
"I was really stressed because I knew there was no way my mother was going to afford a dress or the shoes I wanted. I love this dress. I feel like a princess."
Phalatse won a gown worth R6,000 from Victor Raleaka of RMV Fashions and a R1,000 shoe voucher from Spitz.
Manana, 18, a student at Norkem Park High in Kempton Park, lost her mother a couple of years ago.
Manana is a strong young woman who survived abuse that led to a suicide attempt.
"Were it not for my sister I don't know what I would have done. I thank her so much for sending the e-mail on my behalf and always making me feel so special.
"I feel like a queen."
She said she would like to study supply chain management.
She won the Scandal billboard dress sponsored by e.tv soapie Scandal! and a R1,000 voucher from Spitz.
