Generations star Khethiwe makes elderly smile

WHAT started as a normal Sunday for the elderly people at the Soweto Home for the Aged turned out to be a day of blessing when Generations star Bawinile Modise, aka Khethiwe, rocked up.

Modise, who is a villain you love to hate on television, proved to be a worthy role model. The star chose to celebrate her 30-something special day with the aged in White City Jabavu, Soweto.

She surprised the home with gifts, food, blankets, toiletries, vegetables and a cake just to show her appreciation for the senior citizens.

Modise was accompanied by family and friends in television and the performing arts.

People such as Zukiswa Matola, Palesa Mocuminyane, Thabo Modise, John Lata, Sechaba Pali, Sifiso Ncwane and Percy Ingle were there to lend their support.

Modise cooked a lunch for all the old people at the home.

"I am pleased that whatever we brought put a smile on their faces," Modise said.

"I decided to celebrate this day with them by cooking lunch and giving them some gifts. I want to thank Pick n Pay for the cake and vegetables."

Gospel musicians Ncwane and Pali entertained the elderly with their music while they enjoyed their mouthwatering lunch.

Mary Moshomane, one of the residents at the old age home, said: "We are happy to finally see television stars visiting us. We only watch them on television and it is important to us to see them physically."

Louis Kubeka of the Soweto Home for the Aged said: "We are honoured to have been chosen by Winnie to celebrate her special day.

"We know there are many places out there and we feel important for that. We appreciate everything she is doing."
