The thyroid stimulates our metabolism

YOU might have heard people talk about having trouble with their thyroid.

This organ is found in the neck and stimulates metabolism. With the parathyroid glands, it controls the body's circulating calcium levels.

It produces T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine) and calcitonin.

Some disorders associated with it include hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone, leading to weight gain, tiredness, muscle cramps, joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, brittle hair and nails and a low heart rate) and hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone, leading to metabolism increasing beyond a healthy level.) -
