Town with only single, young women appeals for men to join

Imagine a town full of beautiful young women with no man in sight, now stop imagining because such a place really exists.

The entire population is made up of women aged between 20 and 35, most of whom are single.

According to The Mirror, Noiva do Cordeiro which is situated southeast of Brazil has a population of about 600, the inhabitants of which have now made an appeal for single men who are willing to abide by their rules to join them.

However not all the residents of Noiva do Cordeiro are single and available.

Some of the women are married with families. Their husbands work away from home and are only allowed to return at weekends.

Male children are sent away when they reach the age of 18 as no men are permitted to live in the town.

Although the women enjoy living in peace without men, the lack of eligible bachelors is starting to worry the young and beautiful single ladies.

“The only men we meet are either married or related to us. I haven’t kissed a man for a long time. We’d like to get to know men who would leave their own lives and come to be part of ours. But first they need to agree to live according to our rules,” one of the women, Nelma Fernandes, 23, was quoted saying.

"We all dream of falling in love and getting married. But we like living here and don't want to have to leave the town to find a husband,” she added.

The town of Noiva do Cordeiro was founded by Maria Senhorinha de Lima after she was ‘excommunicated by the Catholic Church for leaving a forced marriage’ in 1891.

She was joined by a group of women and they formed their little community.

In 1940, an evangelical pastor, Anisio Pereira, took one of the women, aged 16, to be his wife and founded a church in the growing community.

Pereira imposed restrictive rules on them, banning them from drinking alcohol, listening to music, using contraceptives etc..

When he died in 1995, the women decided never again to let a man dictate how they should live.
