AFTER coming out about being molested a few months ago, television personality Bridget Khati (neé Masinga) is giving back to the community.

The former beauty queen is on a drive to collect dolls for Johannesburg Child Welfare in the coming weeks.

Khati said this week that it had dawned on her that not all children were privileged to have a choice of toys, let alone a doll.

"I thought I could put a smile on their faces by giving them a toy," Khati said.

"Fortunately, my friends have been supportive, and the dolls just keep rolling in," said Khati.

Launched at the end of October, Khati's initiative has now gained momentum, owing to the power of the social media platforms.

"My initial target was a thousand dolls, but now I anticipate a bigger number," Khati said.

"It would be great to have more dolls so more kids can benefit."

The drop-off date at Johannesburg Child Welfare for the dolls is December 15, and Khati has urged Sowetan readers to donate as many dolls as they can.

Meanwhile, Khati said she was inspired when fans and other abuse victims told her how much her story had inspired them.

"Everyone has been supportive and I am glad that my experience about having been sexually molested in the past has touched so many lives," she said.

Khati was not fazed about her lifestyle show All Access coming to an end because she said she would be busy with new television projects.

"I have the Bridget Productions company, which is currently in the conceptual stages of shows to air next year. It has been a good four years with All Access and I will always value the experiences," she said.

Currently, she is busy preparing to host the Miss SA 2012 pageant and The Road to Miss SA reality show, which is airing on Mzansi Magic DStv Channel 107.

Khati said that she was still enjoying being a couple with her music executive husband Thabiso Khati before they start having children. - motaud@sowetan.co.za
