No barriers to love
Marriage can be wonderful, sustaining, a lifelong commitment between two people who determine to support each other from the wedding day onward. Marriage for people with disability, however, asks more from both partners.
There are usually a few questions asked when seeing such a union - like how do the two people navigate the physical, emotional, logistical, and social issues as compared to that of those that are able?
The able tend to see it as complicated, but for the following people that was not the case.
- Our Wedding blog couple Loeto and Boitumelo Moremi seem to be doing just fine.
Loeto said: "My amazing wife Boitumelo Moremi is deaf. Many thought I was insane to marry a deaf woman but they had no idea that deep inside she’s such a wonderful, loving and caring person. It's been a year now we are blessed with a baby girl Gabrielle, who was not born deaf, to our surprise".
"Love is not about judgement, but how you relate to and respect each other. Along with faith and communication, those are key."
- Oscar Pistorius aka The Fastest Man with No Legs is the magnificent double amputee runner who has stunned the world on the athletics track. But this Blade Runner also has a life beyond his competitive spirit.
His love interest is reputed to be Russian model Anastassia Khozissova, and they have reportedly been together for about a month. Khozissova has walked the runway for Chanel, Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren (shown), and others. Now this is an all-star match
- Black Coffee, who revealed that his right arm is disabled, is married to the talented Mbali Mlotswa.
The DJ, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, had his arm damaged in a car accident when he was 14.
This award-winning DJ has since played with one hand, and he has formed the Black Coffee Foundation to raise funds for people with disabilities.
