Generations actor shares why Pretoria is his favourite city

Aug 28, 2012 | TRAVEL AND LEISURE, with Zenoyise John | 149 comments

THOUGH Generations actor Mandla Gaduka, who plays Choppa in the SABC1 soapie, was born in Mahikeng in North West, he says Pretoria is his favourite city. Here's why, and where he hangs out

SOAPIE ACTOR: Mandla Guduka

If you wanna hang out with a Generations actor, here's where to go...

.

What do you like about Pretoria?

I have now been living in Pretoria for the past eight years and during my first year in the city, I just fell in love with the people of Pretoria.

I like the way they speak, the way they dress and the way they love to go out.

And the jacarandas are definitely the cherry on top.

Favourite hotel or B&B in Pretoria?

I've never really slept in a hotel in Pretoria, but I'd love to spend a night at The Sheraton Pretoria Hotel. It's close to the South African Reserve Bank and several government departments.

What in your opinion makes Pretoria great?

The thing that always reminds me that I'm in Pretoria are the jacaranda trees, especially in Van der Walt Street as you drive into the CBD.

Where do you chill with your friends in Pretoria?

My friends and I love to go to Romans Pizza joint in Hatfield.

The staff are wonderful. The place offers excellent service. Their waiters are the friendliest and they have the best manager in all of Pretoria.

What is your favourite shisanyama in Pretoria?

I'm ashamed to admit that I've never been to a shisanyama.

Where would you entertain a tourist in Pretoria and why?

I would take a tourist to the South African State Theatre. They have some great local shows there that give you a feel of the city and its townships.

There are also great places in and around the theatre where you can have some post-show drinks.

What do you see Pretoria looking like in the future?

I always go to the Union Buildings from where you can see the Pretoria CBD and surrounding areas and I always ask myself, what will happen to all these flats?

Will they just stay the way they are or will they be knocked down one by one for bigger, better ones? We'll just have to wait for the future.

What's your favourite place for a quality meal with your family in Pretoria?

There are very many family-friendly restaurants in Menlyn. My family likes to go to Baobab Cafe 'n Grill.

Where can you find the best burger?

Baobab Cafe 'n Grill.

Where can you find the best cocktails?

Cheeky Monkey.

Where can you find the best all-night dance party?

Mushroom, next to the Department of Trade and Industry, is a nice outdoor place.

Where can you find the best spa treatment?

Definitely my own shower.
