Life is easier for men, when they gain weight it's okay, it just shows that you are feeding him well.
Married women do gain weight because of the men in their lives. Not all men are supportive and loving towards their wives, you get SOME selfish, egotistical men.
1. Where will those women find the time to get back in shape after giving birth because they have look after their families. It's even worse when you don't have a helper or can't afford 1 and you live far away from family and friends. HE won't take out an hour of HIS time to look after the babies just for the woman to rush to gym or jog around the block especially for working moms. Batho ga ba tshwane, some women don't have to lift a finger to get back in shape after having children.
2. When your husband is unloving, emotionally; mentally and physically abusive, that tampers with your emotions and self esteem driving you to unhealthy eating.
When he cheats on you, he will always go for the skinny girls. So ladies you better up your game, watch what you eat and squeeze in 30 minutes to work out at least 3 - 5 times a week. It's so much easier to maintain your weight when you're active. Love yourself 1st because I can promise you someone out there appreciates and treasures you.

I agree 100%. You gave me a de javu moment. When I divorced my ex-wife, she was this big momma who was always nagging and lazy to do anything. She just ate and ate, complained and complained. But, since our divorce, I have noticed has been looking after herself. She lost weight and does her hair. Every time I go and visit my kids she makes sure that she well washed and smells good. She is slender and a bit curvy. She even speaks to me politely. Its a pity that we can't revive our marriage because we have both move on and remarried to other people.

The problem is that too many people (both men and women) start out under false pretences. Why only take pride in your appearance if you are single or find interesting things to talk about after a divorce? A spouse should not be expected to respect and love someone if they don't respect and love themselves. Yes, there are times when you need support and that is when your spouse should be there for you but not bothering to bath regularly or wondering around looking like a badly packed sack of potatoes for years on end does not exactly inspire 'intimacy'

No, I did not fail. We both failed. We were both 20 when we got married. We were young and we both never knew what we were doing. We love it each other and we fought each other. The weight issue was just part of the problem. There were also other personal issues which we both could not solve and resulted in the divorce.

Since we are divorced I think she is motivated to loose weight just to make me jealous and regret and feel guilty about divorcing her. But anyway I have no hard feelings or regrets because she is still a great mother. Even though my kids have a step-father, she still allows them to come and visit me during the school holidays. She has taught them to respect and acknowledge me as their biological father.

But anyway my current wife is 2x hotter and 10 years younger than her. Therefore I have nothing to complain about.

This article does not speak to me, it probably speak to those that says Love is temporary and conditional.

A relationship between any two parties has to be mutual or else it will fail. A habit has nothing to do with Love but frustrations of life in general.

We seem to forget that although people can commit to each other in marriage, they are still individuals who have their own personal goals and needs and if those are not met or achieved, there will be problems; hence one should only commit once they are completely matured and understand the marriage communion.

One cannot expect personal growth and development within a marriage since this is not a career but a spiritual union.

This is similar to schooling; it is believed to be so mandatory that when one fails or do not get an opportunity to attend school; they are immediately declared outcasts/illiterate because either they can’t speak English very well or cannot achieve higher grades. Yet you find a University Professor smoking a pack of cigarette that has a big sign to inform a him/her of the dangers of smoking; now, is that wit or illiteracy? I know some academic will come with a so called academic reasoning like addiction and so forth to cover their arses.

For Example, today’s schools are not ONLY expensive because of Education but because they got swimming pools, beautiful gardens yet the students sees the Gardner as an ordinary illiterate man while it’s his garden that attracts parents, media, sponsors, etc.

This shows that it is not Education that assist the brain but the heart.

Character will always lead and Education and the rest will follow. It is one’s goodness of the Heart that will make him/her shares a meal with a neighbor while Economics and Accounting will tell or advise you otherwise.

In african culture, most marry the first person that asks because of pressure from family and friends. Some marry because they are lonely and need some fulfilment. The truth of the matter is, people need to marry when they are ready and they know that it is more than just love that they feel for their partner.
A lot of both men and women complain that their partner has changed. There is nothing like that, as that is how they were from the start. They were merely good at camouflage.

Give thanks Roots; if the communion is a blessed one, pay the money and be with the woman you admire and Love. I will do that without a blink.

Though I do not support Lobola at all; my view is that all other personal gains have nothing to do with the Marriage communion. However, I still respect the Customs of others for as long as they don't hurt or cause harm to anyone and will follow them if I have to marry in the family; unless my spouse elect tells me otherwise.

The Elders always advised one to marry in the family that almost shares the same customs to avoid such unnecessary confrontations; at least that way you’ll plan well ahead because you know what is expected.

The other thing that we forget to talk about before Marriage is aspects like this; one needs to know what your spouses’ elect customs are before you commit so you know whether you can meet them or not should you wish to marry.

Spend more time talking to your girlfriend about more important things than just having s.e.x and partying; that’s the mistake we make and only try to fight these things later.

Relationship is not just about spending time together but about engaging each other about your future together going forward.

People are different and unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it.

That goes both ways.
When you first get together there is steamy monkeysex three or five times a day, you cook him breakfast, you sit holding his hand through every soccer match and you gaze into his eyes at every opportunity. Couple of years down the line - not so lots. Good thing too as you'd get nothing done.

Part of the problem is the unrealistic expectations. There is no 'happily ever after', we are not Sleeping Beauty and he is not Prince Charming. Marriage is damn hard work. Its worth it but it isn't easy.

Best analogy I ever heard was that marriage is like a rose garden. Tend it with love and it is beautiful but neglect it and it becomes a weed choked bramble pit in no time at all

MYTH #3: A GREAT RELATIONSHIP REQUIRES GREAT PROBLEM-SOLVING •Don't fall into the trap of believing that you and your partner can't be happy if you can't resolve your serious disagreements. Ninety percent of problems in a relationship are not solvable.

•There are things that you and your partner disagree about and will continue to disagree about. Why can't you once and for all resolve these issues? Because in order to do so, one of you would have to sacrifice your values and beliefs.

◦Don't avoid achieving emotional closure at the end of an argument.

MYTH #4: A GREAT RELATIONSHIP HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SEX •The belief that sex is not important is a dangerous and intimacy-eroding myth. Sex provides an important time-out from the pressures of our daily lives and allows us to experience a quality level of closeness, vulnerability and sharing with our partners.

•Sex might not be everything but it registers higher (90 percent) on the "importance scale" if it's a source of frustration in your relationship. If your sex life is unfulfilled, it becomes a gigantic issue. On the other hand, couples that have satisfying sex lives rate sex at only 10 percent on the "importance scale."

•Don't restrict your thinking by considering sex to be something that only consists of the actual physical act. Touching, caressing, holding hands and any means by which you provide physical comfort to your partner can all be viewed as part of a fulfilling sex life.

MYTH #5: A GREAT RELATIONSHIP CANNOT SURVIVE A FLAWED PARTNER •Nobody's perfect. As long as your partner's quirks are non-abusive and non-destructive, you can learn to live with them.
•Instead of focusing on your partner's shortcomings, remember the qualities that attracted you in the first place. Perhaps some of these idiosyncrasies were part of the attraction? Just because a behavior isn't mainstream, doesn't mean that it's toxic to the relationship.
•Be careful to distinguish the difference between a partner with quirks and one with a serious problem. Serious problems that are destructive and abusive include substance abuse and mental/physical abuse. Unlike idiosyncrasies, these are not behaviors you should learn to live with.

MYTH #6: YOUR RELATIONSHIP CAN BECOME GREAT ONLY WHEN YOU STRAIGHTEN YOUR PARTNER OUT •Don't fall into the trap of believing that if you could change your partner, your relationship would be better. You are, at the very least, jointly accountable for the relationship.

•Let go of the childlike notion that falling in love means finding someone who will be responsible for your happiness. You need to take responsibility for your own happiness.

•If your relationship is distressed, the most important person for you to change might be yourself. Once you identify the payoffs you are subconsciously seeking with destructive behavior, you can choose to remove them from your life.
