City where my dreams were born

Ex-Metro FM producer and now Radio 702 host Lupi Ngcayisa tells us about his home town

HE IS a philanthropist who, among other good deeds, collects school shoes for poor scholars.

Lupi Ngcayisa is an ex-Metro FM show producer and presenter and now a TV producer and Talk Radio 702 host.

Born and bred in Walmer township in Port Elizabeth. Ngcayisa says Port Elizabeth gave birth to his dreams. We talk to him about his love for his city.

What do you like about Port Elizabeth?

Port Elizabeth is home, it is where my dreams originated from, all that I am is a manifestation of the PE dream.

Which are your favourite restaurants there and why?

Ginger in Summerstrand. They have excellent service, a range of delicious dishes and marvellous cocktails - and the view is truly magnificent.

Your favourite nightspot in PE?

I love Gondwanas. The DJs are awesome and more talented than the hyped-up Joburg DJs.

Where do you go shopping when you are there?

There's a vibrant flea market near the beachfront. As for elegant clothes, it's a shame but Port Elizabeth is still far behind the times. Perhaps when I open my clothing store they will see the light!

Favourite hotel or B&B in Port Elizabeth?

I love the gorgeousness that's the Radisson Blu, the private classy Windemere Boutique Hotel and the tranquil Isango Gate Hotel - introduced by my friend Noeleen-Maholwana Sangqu.

What makes Port Elizabeth great?

Port Elizabeth is all about humility, authenticity, love and simplicity, there are no bells or whistles - just real people with interesting life experiences.

Where do you chill with your friends?

I enjoy the cocktail hour at the Protea Marine Hotel.

What's your favourite tshisanyama in Port Elizabeth?

Chilex is the best. It is in Walmer township where I was born and bred and where my family home is.

Where would you go for entertainment as a tourist in Port Elizabeth?

Tourists should visit Walmer township, Red Location Museum and, of course, our great beachfront.

What's your favourite place to go for a quiet meal with your family?

I always take my family to Ginger in Summerstrand.

How do you see the city's future?

If Port Elizabeth could afford me what Joburg offers I would move back tomorrow. There are good opportunities for growth, so the city is going places.

What's your favourite place to go for a quiet meal with your family?

I have to say Ginger once again. It has everything you need.
