The label sold more than 310 shirts, in four days

NOT LOCAL: Designer Obakeng Ramabodu and his models show off his 'Made in China' JUJU label, which was inspired by suspended ANCYL president Julius Malema.

THE JUJU label finally hit the streets last week to a promising reception.

The label sold more than 310 shirts, in four days after designer Obakeng Ramabodu returned from China with the merchandise.

"This is a proud moment for me. Through the JUJU label I aim to take the local fashion industry by storm and contribute to the growth of local brands," Ramabodu said.

The young designer said there had been much interest in his designs from neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Ramabodu said he had had 10000 caps and shirts manufactured and hopes to grow his label to also include a formal range.

Ramabodu shot to fame when he announced plans to launch a clothing label inspired by suspended ANC Youth League president Julius Malema.

"My inspiration is Malema as a politician," he said.

"But, beyond that the label has nothing to do with him."

Ramabodu denied riding on Malema's coat tails but admited taking advantage of opportunities that were available.

"The range is all about colour," he said.

It's young, fresh and exciting." The designs are minimal, with vests, shirts and caps available in a variety of colours.

The men's shirts retail at R350 and the women's vests at R300. Caps cost R200.

Ramabodu has yet to find retailers for his label, so he will be distributing the range across the country based on orders placed on the label's Facebook page.

The label is aimed at the youth aged between 8 and 35. Ramabodu is aiming for global domination and announced plans for a kiddies' range to follow soon.

Ramabodu addressed the controversial decision to manufacture the line in China, saying that most clothes were made there and following a growing demand, that will change in order to contribute to job creation in South Africa.

"I am positive that South Africans will love the brand," he said.

The label will be launched nationwide, starting in Limpopo on February 11.

Jealous down. Juju rock and so is Obakeng. Negative comments might be from those who wish it was them who came with the idea. Over 310 in 4 days? Even big names at big shops who sell for 350 don't achive that in 4 days.

Jealous down negative comments, Obakeng is making it big and whether you like it or not, he is not inspired by zille or your DA poster, but our very own Juju The King.
