Reza reveals his other spicy skills

MOUTHWATERING Indian cuisine is loved in many parts of the world. India is famous for its spices and curry and the dishes are emulated outside of its borders.

Some say the cooking cannot be matched by people who are not from the colourful country.

This dilemma is answered by chef Reza Mahammad. The flamboyant chef tackles Indian cooking for dummies in his new cooking show on the Food Network (DStv channel 185).

Reza, Spice Prince of India is the show hosted by the England-born chef who tours the palaces of India, tastes their impeccably made food and then redoes the meals using ingredients that are easily accessible to budding chefs outside of India and makes the meal more contemporary.

The screening of the first episode of Reza, Spice Prince of India, which took place at the spectacular Orient Hotel in Hartebeespoort, showcased Reza's loveable over-the-top personality.

The master chef captivates the audience with his personality and keeps them interested with his vast knowledge of Indian cooking.

For those who love Indian food but are not sure how to perfect it, this is the best place to be.

The 10-episode Top Billing-like show premiers next month and Reza is sure that it will resonate beautifully with South African audiences.

"It's about the food, the customs, meeting the royals who are so accessible. It's a sensory journey and a visual fest," he gushed about the show.

Perhaps Reza thinks the country needs a culinary lesson since he believes the Indian food here is different to the food in India.

"The subtle nuances and intensities of flavours are more aromatic in India than in South Africa and the curries here have a certain aftertaste," he said.

The chef, who has quite a strong following, revealed that he is in talks with a South African production company to do a show in the country for his fans.

"There is a gap in the market here because there aren't a lot of cooking shows in the country and I love teaching and explaining things so it would work beautifully," he said.

Great news for Reza's supporters who have something to look forward to in the future, but for now this show will whet their appetites.
