Former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane tells us where to hang out in Polokwane

GOING PLACES: Bokang Montjane is a model citizen.

SHE recently made South Africa proud at the Miss World when she was named Miss World Africa and was one of the Miss World finalists.

Former Miss SA Bokang Montjane, who is 1.75 m tall, was born and raised in the small village of Gamphahlele in Polokwane in Limopopo.

She proudly tells Sowetan about Polokwane.

What do you like about Polokwane?

The fact that there's still that spirit of ubuntu and the youth still respects elders. Also the fact that my town has developed tremendously in a very short time.

What are your favourite restaurants in Polokwane and why?

Saskia ... it's very classy. The chef makes the most delicious oxtail I've ever tasted.

Favourite hotel or B&B in Polokwane?

Zororo Lodge in the Dalmada area is quiet and sophisticated.

What makes Polokwane great?

The people in my hometown are incredible, they are always willing to help. They greet with a smile and the diversity of cultures is rich and incredible.

Where do you chill with your friends in Polokwane?

I stay in Penina Park and when I was in high school they opened a place called Flora Park Dam and we would go there. Now we are older we park our cars there and chill with music playing and catching up and reminiscing.

What's your favourite shisa nyama in Polokwane?

Waterland is in Penina Park, a 15-minute walk from my house. Every Sunday they have a shisa nyama.

Where would you entertain a tourist in Polokwane?

I would take them to Meropa Sun International Casino and Resort. And then, of course, outside town there are amazing places like Magoebaskloof.

What do you see Polokwana looking like in future?

At the pace its going I see it even more developed and bigger than it is. If you had told me that the little town that I grew up in would become this big by 2012 I would never have believed you.

What's your favourite place to go for a quiet meal with your family?

The Ranch. It's a little out of town and it's a place where you won't just bump into people.

Best burger:

Steers. I have always been mad about Steers burgers.

Hair salon:

Exclusive Hair Salon at Savannah Mall

All-night dance party:

Waterland. It's open till about 5am so you can party all night long.

Spa treatment:

The Camelot Spa in Grobler Street.

She is pretty yes, but Polokwane is a mess. There is no place to hang out there. The place is hot and there you get surounded by dirty people. I just threw up thinking about it....

This is so wrong, Ga-Mphahlele cannot be a small villag.e Mr Reporter. Ga-Mphahlele is a place consisting of many villages, some big some small.

@Sowetan.....there is no viallage called GaMphahlele in Limpopo. Check your facts correctly... Yep.. i was in Polokwane over the past weekend and what a beatiful place to stay. I went to the new Mall of the North and passed through huge mansions in an area comradely referred to as " Tender Park". I saw huge Golf Estates. Yes the Zororo Lodge is one of those.......

Uncompromising

I once had prawns from The Ranch and i vomited all the way back to JHB. That was before the toll-road ! The pain , OMG ! Never have seafood at a place that is a million miles away from the sea !
