Meet the first-ever Miss KwaNdebele

KELETSO Reminder Nkadimeng, the new Miss KwaNdebele in Mpumalanga, has big plans.

The 18-year-old from Tweefontein in the KwaMhlanga area, on Saturday beat 20 other contestants to be crowed the first-ever Miss KwaNdebele.

And she believes that this contest is the beginning of many great things to come.

"I am still young and the future looks very bright for me. I intend taking part in the Miss South Africa contest next and who knows, I might even be Miss World in the near future," she said.

Nkadimeng said her priority at the moment was to change the mindset of the KwaMhlanga community and also to convince the youth in the area that crime does not pay.

"Many people in this area believe that to be successful, you have to be from Johannesburg, and I want to change that mindset," Nkadimeng, who recently wrote matric, said.

"My first stop will be local schools because this is where my target group is. I want to speak to the youth because if they see that one of their own age group can achieve what I have managed, they will know that anything is possible," she said.

Nkadimeng said she would not limit her involvement to modelling .

" I have experience in acting and I want to teach my fellow villagers how to act," she said.

Nkadimeng is acting in a drama called Ikusasa Alaziwa.

"I also intend starting my own entertainment company," she said.

Nkadimeng's first princess is Mmapule Ledwaba of Luthuli and her second princess is Mimmy Skosana of Maphotle.

Earlier in the day, Thandi Mthombeni, 16, won the Miss Teen pageant for the area.

The current Miss Mpumalanga, Mpumi Lethoko, and the founder of the Miss KwaNdebele contest, Mathilda Matlala, were two of the four judges of the Miss KwaNdebele contest.
