Mabopane, according to Juju fashion designer

PRETORIA-BASED fashion designer Obakeng Ramabodu is not one to shy away from controversy. He recently caused a frenzy when he launched the Juju range.

Last year the owner of OB Fitted got tongues wagging when he sent Prosper Mkwaiwa and his then girlfriend, Tina, down the red carpet in sumptuous outfits during the Metro FM Awards.

When asked about his colourful streetwear range, which features berets, T-shirts and caps for men and women, he says it is a dream come true.

He says his range is inspired by suspended ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema, whom he calls a hero, and Mabopane, his township.

What do you like about Mabopane?

It's got people with style. There's no way you can walk the streets of Mabopane and not be inspired, artistically and psychologically.

What are your favourite restaurants in Mabopane and why?

KFC! Everybody loves it. That is where you meet beautiful girls!

Where do you go for shopping when you are there and why?

Mabopane is not a suburban area, so you don't find huge malls. Nevertheless, I enjoy going to the Mabo-pane shopping complex. This is where everybody shops. Here you get everything.

What's your favourite hotel or B&B in Mabopane and why?

Chinake Guest House. Though it has a Nigerian name, it is owned by a local guy, a friend. The owners really made an effort. Their breakfast is out of this world and if you are into beautiful things their interior design will blow you away.

What makes Mabopane great?

I was born there.

Where do you chill with your friends in Mabopane?

We usually hang around at the Morula Sun. That's where you get to spot celebrities and interesting people who visit the area for business or leisure.

What's your favourite shisanyama in Mabopane?

Mary's, Block B and kwa Kedibone ko di U. The vibe is amazing and I see new faces every time I go there.
