Great chance for 20 aspiring actors

THEATRE giants Darlington Michaels and Paul Rapetsoa have teamed up in a bid to develop youth talent in Limpopo.

The two men, who have years of experience in theatre, are working together on a project called Fundzani Theatre Development.

Fundzani, an initiative of Get Down Productions, is aimed at developing the youth.

Masgupe Phala of Get Down Productions said: "We have involved experienced people like Darlington and Paul to spot talent. We have been striving for years and are humbled by the support we are getting from the government."

Phala said Fundzani wanted to focus on Limpopo because of its rich and untapped talent.

"The aim is to unearth local talent at auditions and then produce 20 professional actors. The auditions will be spearheaded by Rapetsoa and Darlington."

Phala said the 20 lucky candidates would undergo an intensive, accredited, capacity building programme and eventually form part of a coming musical stage play to be launched in April 2012.

Auditions for the project start on November 5 at the SABC Auditorium, Polokwane; on November 12 at Jane Furse Comprehensive School in Sekhukhune; on November 19 at Lenyenye Community Hall in Mopani; the Mutale Community Hall in Vhembe on November 26; and at OR Tambo Community Hall, Modimolle, on December 3.

Rapetsoa and Michaels began their careers at the Gibson Kente Theatre School in Dube.

After working with Kente the two giants went on to conquer the performing arts world from different angles.

Rapetsoa joined Thobela FM as an executive radio drama producer, while Michaels followed the television path, taking part in numerous outstanding productions over the years.
