WITH the the Africa Fashion Week done and dusted for another season, we take a look back at the highs and lows of the biggest fashion event on the continent.

FASHION

The show certainly had its moments of glamour and also several moments of disaster.

But African designers have jacked up their game. When the event started they were a laughing stock. Now they beat South Africans hands down with their innovative designs.

FOOD

Food can make or break any event. Kudos to Africa Fashion Week for treating its guests to delicious, quality food.

VENUE

Nothing shouts class like a beautiful, central and safe venue with clean restrooms in a good suburb. The Sandton Convention Centre was the perfect venue.

VIBE

This year's event was intimate. The show came down to the people. Designers could mingle with showgoers and were available in their exhibition stalls to answer questions. The venue was not overcrowded as it was in previous years.

PR COMPANY

Celebs SA were extremely professional and they know the importance of the media. Journalists did not feel the company was doing them a favour being there. We applaud African Fashion International for making this choice.

VIP LOUNGE

The lounge was prim and proper. Those who were not in the VIP lounge were not treated like peasants.

DESIGNERS

There was nothing African about local designers' garments. They were beaten pants down by the visitors' rich fabrics and nice shapes.

MODELS

Models make any fashion show. The number of ethnic models cast was not impressive, given the fact that this was Africa Fashion Week. The usual beefy models we enjoy drooling over were not there. Most male models looked like they were picked up in the street .

TIME

Africa Fashion Week shows unfortunately subscribe to "African time". They never start on time, especially on the opening night, which is very annoying for those journalists who have to file stories the same night.

GUESTS

The fashion crowds did not make many fashion statements. At a fashion show of this calibre you would expect people to come dressed in their Sunday best.
