SOUTH African fashion designers are expected to take the fashion savvy and hard-to-please Angolans by storm.

Seven top local designers will join other African fashion heavyweights in Luanda for the Annual Fashion Business Angola from October 14 to 16.

The designers - including Klûk CGDT, David Tlale, Fududzi, Bongiwe Walaza, Dax Martin, Gert Johann Coetzee and Thula Sindi - will join 33 others from 20 African countries.

The show which started last year is in its second chapter.

Tlale told Sowetan that he has showcased in Angola before.

He praised the show for unifying and bringing together the fashion industry on the continent.

"Angolans love fashion. I cannot wait to present my collection to them. I am starting to have a following there and it's exciting for the brand," he said.

Coetzee, who is traveling to Angola for the first time, said the trip was an opportunity of a lifetime.

"I have been told that Angolans are very fashion forward. I have prepared good stuff that will definitely blow them away."

Walaza, who will also be showing in Angola for the first time, said she was not nervous about facing the fashionable Angolans.

"I am going there with Shweshwe. I am sure people are going to love it. I am not intimidated by the uniqueness of my brand. I know it can win any heart, anywhere."

The biggest fashion and beauty expo in the continent is produced and directed by South Africa's Umzingeli. Jan Malan, of Umzingeli, said they had been working hard to make the second chapter of Fashion Business Angola even more successful than the inaugural event.

Celebrating Angola's win at Miss Universe, the event will also honour successful international models that hail from Angola.
