Annual Zulu reed dance festival at the Enyokeni Palace also marked King Goodwill Zwelithini’s 40th year as monarch

President Jacob Zuma received a 'champion of the environment' certificate during a tree planting ceremony in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, the presidency said.

“He attended the ceremony where he planted a tree and was presented with a certificate,” said spokesman Bongani Majola.

The Champions of the Environment Foundation presented him with the certificate at Enyokeni Palace.

He had been invited by the foundation’s chairman Bantu Holomisa.

The event was part of the build-up to the United Nations COP17 climate change conference to be held in Durban in November.

The tree planting was held concurrently with the annual Zulu reed dance festival at the palace.

Zuma attended the reed dance festival, which aimed to create awareness in young women about the sacredness of chastity.

The president, Holomisa, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize, provincial arts and culture MEC Weziwe Thusi, health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dlomo were among guests who flocked to the annual event.

This year’s reed dance also marked King Goodwill Zwelithini’s 40th year as monarch of the Zulu kingdom.

This milestone established him as the longest serving king of the Zulus in recorded history.

am proud of our african culture and for this country for having defended it, but I dislike the lack of respect it is for ladies to go half naked.it still shows how remote we can be.just like wowen circum in some of our south african and other african customs.this is not a culture, it is a lack of culture in this cintury.

SMG777 - You are 100%, its hard for amacoconuts that don’t even do their own tradition and don’t even know what it means to be African to understand why we are so proud of our ways. Thy just like amalawu with no beginning and no end, people with no origin but the sad part is that these are blacks but they are so lost!
