All set for hat styles at the July

HATMAKER Thembi Mabule of Till Thembi Innovations is among South African milliners who will be making hats for the Durban July fashionistas.

With three years in the business, she has collaborated with designers such as Uyanda Mbuli, Obakeng Ramabodu of OB Fitted and Lebo Mashile of Lebo Mash.

She has also designed hats for celebrities such as Kuli Roberts, Sophie Ndaba and Primrose Crous.

She talked to Sowetan about the hats she's sending to the event as well as what she predicts we'll see people wearing.

  • Tell us about some of the hats you made for the July. I got a lot of orders from boutiques and a few individuals.

They were ordered from me a month and a half ago, as soon as the invitations were in the mail.

The most popular ones are fascinators. These are headpieces that are attached to the head with a comb headband or clip.

  • Who did you make hats for?

Caster Semenya will wear one of my hats. I don't know how it will look yet, I'm still waiting to see her dress. What I know is that she is going to look hot.

  • What are you looking forward to seeing other people wearing?

There will be a lot of fascinators and Rollo hats. Those opting for something with a veil, the veils will be small and not cover the face.

  • What do you hope the first ladies will wear?

I'm expecting a fascinator for MaNtuli and the other wives but it would be advisable for MaKhumalo to wear a full hat.

  • Will everyone be wearing a hat?

This event is inspired by the recent royal wedding.

You can't show up to a Royal Wedding without a hat. It is de rigueur.
