Men now have a place to pamper themselves

Dec 1, 2010 | Sne Masuku | 37 comments

DURBAN businessman Malusi Mbonambi has launched a place where men can go to be pampered

Mbonambi said the idea struck him after he became fed up with having to wait in queues for hours when salon staff were busy with women's hairdos, while all he wanted was a quick haircut.

His frustration led him to open an exclusive men-only place,Barber Lounge and Spa, on Durban's Musgrave Road.

Though the venue is just a few days old it is already proving to be a hit with local celebrities, DJs and businesspeople.

Mbonambi said the opening of such a place is not only going to be something that men always wanted to have, but he feels there has always been a need for men to pamper themselves for a change. He said the days when men used to be associated with stinking sweat are gone.

Mbonambi said: "These days men also need some pampering and to do their nails. The days when it was okay for men to have rough hands are over. Men now have the freedom to do things like a pedicure, which is very exciting."

He said though he already had an idea of what he wanted in mind, he had to travel to various countries abroad to do research to see how the idea can suit South African men.

"A lot of work and time was put into the idea. I also had to choose a product that would work wonders with our local men - from cosmetics to equipment, they are out of this world.

"I had to get the best because men here also purchase cosmetics and fragrances that are imported straight from manufacturers, mostly from the United Kingdom," Mbonambi said.

Mbonambi hails from Umlazi township, south of Durban, and is also the owner of the award-winning transport company Siyavaya.

@Wonder

I support you bra, a man must still have a rugged sense of masculinity about him. Its what makes a woman get butterflies in her stomach. And being rugged does not mean being sweaty,untidy, smelly and scruffy looking.

This saloon and others like them are primarily meant for gays, what next, theres going to be a saloon with make up for men all in the name of being "trendy" and keeping up with the "times" well if keeping up with the times means looking and dressing like a woman then F the times. My women love the masculine me.

@Baasboy and @YoungV a man can take care of himself without having to resort to feminine solutions like facials mascara manicures or what ever this guy is offering.

@Cheeseboy. Looking after yourself does not necessary mean gay. As I told @Wonder to go back to stoneage. He must take you along. Do you use cologne or do you still refer to it as perfume?

I'm with Wonder, Cheeseboy and Vandal. Men getting pedicures???? Hell no. This feminine crap is gay as hell. Metrosexuals, call them what you want, this is gay. I can just imagine going to the salon with my chick and i'm doing my nails while she does hers. That will never work. A man needs to be a man!!! How can you call yourself a man when you are competing with your girl for the mirror. They probably take longer getting ready then their women doing facials etc. This ain't right. These faggots probably can't even change a flat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
