A chiskop is so very sexy

THERE is something very sensual about a bald man. He has loads of sex appeal, exudes positive energy and demonstrates confidence and self-assurance.

Years ago shaving his head bald was probably not the first haircut choice of a man.

In the 1940s and 1950s, it was pomade-brushed waves that sent women into a frenzy. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, it was the Afro that caused female hearts to flutter.

More recently, men wearing curls, dreadlocks or geometric cuts won the affection of many women.

But now a shaved head is a fashion statement for many men, giving them a sharp and sophisticated look.

Whether you're looking for a way to fight a receding hairline or just looking for a new style, a shaved head has become more and more popular.

Men such as Kaizer Motaung Jnr, Phat Joe, Melusi Yeni, Menzi Ngubane, Chico Twala and Andile Mxakaza are but a few examples of hot men sporting "chiskops".

How best to carry the style?

This is ideal for the man who is constantly on the go, having to jump from one end of his lifestyle to the other, says Hugo Manzini, a freelance hairstylist. "It looks sophisticated paired with a suit and hip with street wear, making it the ideal choice for a busy man," he says.

"A confident man can carry this look off easily, as many are now doing. It has style and class, and paired with a winning smile and right attitude, attracts the right kind of attention."

Manzini says a shaved head emphasises masculine features.

"It highlights strong facial features or a feature men are proud of, like bright eyes or a sexy, square jaw.

"A smoothly shaven man is appealing because he is a perfectly polished package of machismo and maturity, intrigue and integrity and sophistication and sensuality," Manzi says.

He adds that not everyone will look good bald.

He says the best candidates for the bald head style are men who have a round head, not pointy.

But to get an idea if the bald head style, Manzini advises men to try wearing a swimming cap and see how it looks.

How to shave

Manzini says it's best to shave your head after a steamy, hot shower, when your pores and hair follicles are open.

"It's easier to shave when the hair has been softened significantly. Your shave will also be closer," he says.

Shaving steps from askmen.com

  • Before you get in the shower, check the length of your hair. If it is longer than 0,6centimetres, it's recommended that you shave it to that length first. After your hair is at its desired length, prepare for shaving your head by following a strict skin-care regimen. Exfoliate your scalp with a grainy scrub. Rub lightly and rinse thoroughly.

  • Apply a shaving lubricant such as shaving oil or shaving gel. Work the lather into your scalp as best you can to ensure a close shave.

  • Begin shaving your head with long, smooth strokes without much pressure. Starting with the softest hair first, continue to shave your scalp. Avoid shaving over the same place twice, and rinse the razor with warm water as you slowly shave.

  • When you have finished shaving your head, rinse your head, shampoo your scalp and apply a moisturiser.

Just like your face and facial hair, you need to be careful about blocking the pores on your head.

Use a non-comedogenic cream to add moisture to your scalp.
