Bras no longer a torture

THOUGH outdated, the notion of bra burning is often wrongly associated with the assertion of women's rights and liberation from patriarchy.

The term is regarded as a form of protest and comes from a demonstration against the Miss America pageant in the 1960s, at which women threw away bras since they regarded them as "instruments of torture".

Times have changed, and so have bras.

No longer regarded as instruments of torture, bras play a key role in most women's wardrobes.

A good bra is hard to find, many will testify. It should not only look fabulous but also offer support and comfort.

A bra fitting is good place to start.

Stylists say the perfect fitting bra should position the breasts midway between the shoulders and the elbows.

Signs that you are wearing the wrong size bra are:

  • Breasts that spill out of the bra cups;
  • Wrinkly cups;
  • Bra straps and under wires that dig into the flesh;
  • A bra that rides up and sits near the shoulders.
