Victoria Beckham missed the opening of her flagship London store today to speak at the United Nations General Assembly.

The former Spice Girl turned fashion designer - who was set to open her first shop on London's Dover Street today (25.09.14) - flew to New York to make the passionate speech on the fight against HIV, reports Mirror.co.uk.

The mother of four - who has Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 12, Cruz, nine, and Harper, three - with her husband David Beckham - took to the stage to perform her duties as an UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador. She said: ''I'm a mother, I'm a woman, I want to reach out and help as many women and mothers as I can. Babies should not be born with HIV.''

The brunette beauty, 40, tweeted her excitement to speak at the conference as she headed to JFK airport last night (24.09.14). She wrote to her 7.8 million followers: ''On my way to #NYC to support @UNAIDS x vb #UNGA.

''As a woman & a mother I want to make change happen and support the @UNAIDS vision x vb. ''Together we can end the #AIDS epidemic x vb (sic).''

Although it was first reported Victoria would be heading back to the English capital following her speech, David, 39, was on hand to welcome hoards of visitors to the Mayfair store earlier today.
