After 13 weeks of tough competition, DJ Nastor emerged as the master of spin in the SABC deejay talent search show 1s and 2s.

Born Nhlakanipho Ntobeko Dlamini, DJ Nastor was announced the winner on Tuesday night. He says he was able to dazzle judges, including DJ Naves and Sphectacular, with his producing skills.

"I think my skill in music production gave me the edge over other contestants."

Dlamini admits that since he was up against the best in the finale, he never saw himself as a winner. He says he was just excited to make it to the last three.

"I have never won any competition, that is why I did not expect to win. It is only now that it's starting to dawn on me that I won. It actually feels good."

He says winning the competition means that his professional career kicks off now. He says the competition has helped him to launch himself as a brand name.

The 28-year-old plans to capitalise on the hype by releasing a single, almost immediately.

Dlamini hails from Zakheni in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, and says he had a lot of fun in the competition because he was doing what he enjoys.

"The competition has taught me to give my all in everything I do and that you should use all the opportunities you get to build your brand."

As the winner, DJ Nastor walks away with DJing equipment worth about R100000. He plans to build a studio.

He started out with a computer and a microphone in his bedroom. After matric in 2007, he taught himself music production.

In 2010 he enrolled at Damelin College where he studied sound engineering and also learned music production.

Dlamini stayed in Joburg after completing the course, working with the likes of DJ Mbuso.

"I knew from a young age that I love music and it will be my career. I am happy that this competition has launched me and now people know about me."
