Babes up against heavyweights in Afrimma

Gqom queen Babes Wodumo has received three nominations in the African Muzik Magazine Awards (Afrimma).

Babes, born Bongekile Simelane, will come up against artists like Black Coffee, Donald, Emtee and AKA, among others.

She is up for the Best Female Southern Africa, Best Collaboration (for Wololo featuring Mampintsha) and Song of The Year awards.

In the latter category, Babes is competing with Davido, Wizkid, and Cassper Nyovest, among others.

The awards take place in Dallas, Texas, in the US on October 8.

Six of South African male musicians Donald, Emtee, Cassper Nyovest, Nathi and AKA, are vying for the Best Male Southern Africa Award. They are up against The Dogg of Namibia, Jah Prayza (Zimbabwe) and Roberto (Zambia).

In the best female category, Lira, Zahara, Babes and Bucie are up against Chikune of Namibia, and Ice Queen Cleo of Zambia.

In the best African Group, Mi Casa is competing with Sauti Sol from Kenya, Radio & Weasel (Uganda),

Toofan (Togo) and Bracket (Nigeria) among others.

The organisers have this year added two categories - Best Lusophone and Best Francophone. Once again, Ntokozo Mbambo has been nominated in the Best African Gospel group.
