Nasty C loses 2 nods for Samas

Nasty C was yesterday dramatically stripped of two of his SA Music Awards (Sama) nominations.

The rapper was in the running for the best video of the year category with his two songs Don't Do It and Good Girls, but following complaints that the videos were flighted outside of the deadlines as dictated by the Sama rules, the organisers decided to disqualify him.

This turn of events now means the 20-year-old musician has been toppled as the most nominated artist at the 23rd edition of the Samas.

Kwesta of Ngud ' fame is now the most nominated artist with six nods, as Nasty C drops to five.

Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO of Record Industry of South Africa, who are the organisers of the awards, confirmed this to Sowetan .

"We don't do any verification as the Sama because over the years we have not had a situation where a record company submits to a broadcaster and the videos are not flighted," he said.

"Our investigations have revealed that Mabala Noise submitted their entries for the Sama 23 best video of the year category on 24 January 2017 for the music videos Don't Do It and Good Girls.

"After the nominations were announced last week, we received enquiries and complaints that the videos were flighted after the closing period of January 31 2017.

"We went to broadcasters and all of them confirmed that they flighted after our closing day."

Two new replacement nominees will be announced after the auditors have verified them.

"We accept the responsibility. We made a wrong assumption. We apologise to all those inconvenienced," said Sibisi.

Mabala Noise's Mhlo Gumede said: "We did nothing wrong, we submitted to broadcasters . and entered like everybody else."
