After years of living in the shadow of her sister Kelly Khumalo as a backup singer, Zandie says she is ready to take the centre stage.

The petite beauty has dropped her latest single titled Bittersweet and is ready to release her album by month end.

Zandie, 26, tells Time Out that she was ready to step out of her comfort zone.

"It just felt like the right time to hit the studio and go out on my own," she says.

Khumalo's first single, Themba, was released in what she calls a "surprise manner" after her husband Mhlo Gumede, who is also in the music industry, took her recorded song to a radio station.

"I remember it was on a Sunday when I was home and I was told to turn on the radio and I heard my song," she says.

The song went on to sell more than 3000 units in just two days on iTunes.

Zandie says her biggest motivation comes from Kelly who kept asking her to start recording her own music.
