Legendary radio presenter Bob Mabena stands to make history if he wins the Best TV Presenter award at the Saftas in Sun City tomorrow.

Mabena on Thursday celebrated 28 years in broadcasting.

His presenting skill and expertise shone bright at the Mzansi Magic Music Specials where he interviewed musicians such as Rebecca Malope, George Benson, Mafikizolo and Nathi in different locations.

He takes on young talent Tumi Morake, Sivuyile Ngesi, Katlego Maboe, Chanley Wong, Laurian Nortje, Lawrence Maleka, Thembisa Mdoda and Masechaba Ndlovu in the public voted category.

If he wins, Mabena will become the first South African to take the best presenting award in both TV and radio broadcasting and music.

In 2013, Mabena won the best MTN Radio Award for his show on Kaya FM and is a SA Music Award winner.

He tells Time Out that if he wins he will celebrate the achievement because it means a lot to him.

"I put everything in that show. But I have to admit I have not been aggressive on campaigning. Somehow these voted for categories do not excite me. It's like you begging people to vote for you.

"I still prefer the old way where a panel of judges sit down and all agree that this person deserves an award," he shares.

Mabena enjoys presenting Mzansi Magic Music Specials so much that he does not even need a script. "It's not that we cannot afford one, or we don't have a scriptwriter. But I got used in presenting the show without scripts since the days of Bop TV," Mabena said.
