Sowetan spurred my occupation: Minnie Dlamini

I had always heard about Sowetan and the role it played in the struggle, but growing up in Durban it never reached my home.

It wasn't until I got my break on Live on SABC1 where the newspaper quickly identified me as one of "Mzansi's Sexiest", an honour I appreciated.

Originally being a liberation struggle newspaper, Sowetan has played a major role in South Africa, period. I'm privileged to live a life with possibilities as a result of that labour. And it's no secret that print media report topical issues, and when I get to be at the forefront of those stories, my career grows.

Honestly, newspapers can be depressing at times, but the Sowetan generally has a really good balance of controversial, sensational and rational [stories]. Stop the tabloid stories please! Just kidding, I know at the end of the day it's business.

Sowetan has become such a different newspaper from the apartheid days. It has managed to change and expand without completely digressing from its roots. I wish to see the newspaper continue to grow and expand to reach the heights never intended but so necessary.
