Orlando Pirates star defender Thabo "Festival" Matlaba was allegedly embroiled in a pre-dawn gun battle that left an unknown Tembisa man in hospital.

The incident, which allegedly resembled an action movie, occurred at Phomolong Section in Tembisa at about 4am last Sunday morning.

Both Matlaba and the unidentified gunmen reported the matter to the Rabie Ridge police station but none of them were arrested.

Police spokesman Mofa Masela confirmed that Matlaba opened a case of attempted murder but further investigations will notbe carried out and the case is set to be withdrawn .

"We couldn't find spent cartridges at the scene and both parties couldn't identify the suspects," Masela said, adding they had heard of the injured person but did not know which hospital he was admitted to.

Two police officers working in the Ekurhuleni area alleged that Matlaba and the unknown men were allegedly involved in a shoot-out, but decided not to proceed with cases against each other as they would then be charged with attempted murder.
