Idols South Africa contestant Amanda Black wants to clear up the misconception that she is 'too serious'.

Amanda Black says she's not as serious as most of her fans think she is. She believes she's a warm and welcoming soul.

"I'm a quirky, crazy and i like to laugh a lot and have a bubbly personality" she said.

Amanda Black was speaking to Sowetan LIVE on the sidelines of the Ekurhuleni Jazz Comes Alive event at the Birchwood hotel in Kempton Park where she was performing alongside  Selaelo Selota and Noma G.

Born in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, the 23-year-old says that her seriousness is only in her music and not her personality.

Amanda Black says she understands that people can sometimes mistaken her seasoned and matured voice for a serious personality.

The songstress scored five nominations for the 16th Metro FM Music Awards for her album Amazulu which she released towards the end of 2016.

She is nominated in the African pop‚ female album‚ new artist‚ R& B single and song of the year categories.

"Speechless, I'm so excited and it's my first album. It's been amazing and i didn't expect it to do so well so quickly, it feels like a pat on the back for me and my team who worked on it, they did something right, " Said Amanda.

Ekurhuleni Jazz Comes Alive takes place every first Friday of the month and tickets are sold at R450 per person or R4,500 per table of 10.
