Sky is the limit as Babes reaches yet another milestone

There's no stopping the tsunami that is Babes Wodumo.

This week the Durban singer and dancer clocked 2.3-million views for her music video of the hit Wololo featuring Mampintsha. This mean feat has taken her just over three months - a first in the local industry.

The exclusive and elusive You Tube million viewers club boasts the likes of Joyous Celebration with 1.9 million views for Halleluya Nkateko and Nathi with 1.4 million views for Nomvula. The videos were released over a year ago.

Babes, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, gushed yesterday in a short statement: "I'm grateful for the overwhelming support. Can't wait to drop the album in October because people are waiting for it and I can't wait to see all my supporters at my shows."

Her manager, Victor Dlokolo, toasted the news too. "We are celebrating. It's a milestone she achieved in such a short space of time. It shows how people are interested in the brand. After a long time, South Africans have an authentically local talent they can celebrate."

Dlokolo said this was further testament that South Africans were supportive of local musicians.

Babes's fame is also taking root on the continent. Last month she was a headline act at the Stanbic Arena in Gaborone where she entertained 15000 revellers. Her team is now remixing Wololo with top musicians from Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda as a strategy to take over the continent.

She has already recorded the Nigerian remix with D'Banj and shot a video while Isa from Ghana is next in line.

Babes releases her debut album on October 28 and it will include the remixes.

She is a finalist in the SowetanLIVE Mzansi Sexiest and a nominee at the MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas) for Song of the Year and Best Breakthrough that will take place later this month in Johannesburg. Babes is fully booked until February 2017, with performances at Cassper Nyovest's Fill Up Orlando Stadium, the Mamas, Wololo Cape Town and new year's eve gigs at the Fact Durban Rocks concert and in Swaziland.
