Kid X was supposed to be the Drake of Cashtime: K.O

K.O has revealed that rapper Kid X was supposed to be the Drake of Cashtime but never filled his potential before leaving the label.

Speaking soon after the Cashtime Life boss issued a statement addressing Kid X’s recent shock departure from the label‚ K.O spoke to Slikour about the expectations they had for Kid X when they signed him.

“I was literally inspired by the Young Money/Cash Money model. (Kid) X to me was supposed to be the Drake of this situation. By now he was supposed to be bigger than K.O and he was the sole person responsible to make that happen‚” K.O said in the interview.

K.O said that he felt that the label had given Kid X enough of the “the basics” to fill that role but left him and other artists on the label to work on themselves and their brands.

He said that he told the artists that the label would focus their attention on releasing their albums but that “the albums didn’t really come fast enough“.

He explained that Kid X sent them a demo of his album but they did not feel it was of sufficient quality for an album.

“Maybe he thought we were shooting down his idea but it was us basing it on what we heard in the demo. The biggest thing was that I wouldn’t allow someone to go out there and be burnt on my watch‚” K.O said. The demo was cleaned up by Kid X’s team and was released as a SAMA-nominated EP.

Still‚ an album was the goa‚ but did not materialise‚ leading to Kid X deciding in early July to approach his bosses about leaving the label.

Kid X announced his decision to leave the label earlier this month on live television music show Live Amp. The news shocked fans across the country and led to questions about what had gone wrong between the rapper and his label.

K.O addressed the concerns in a statement released on Friday‚ saying: “It hurts that none of them stand up for me and tell the truth that the delay of their albums dropping has nothing to do with me and everything to do with their own pace“.

Kid X has since released a song thanking Cashtime for his time at the label and saying that he is “still Cashtime in spirit“.
