Game of Thrones will suffer under Brexit

The impact of Britain’s divorce with the European Union could even be felt by fans of the popular television series Game of Thrones.

Foreign Policy magazine reported that the HBO fantasy series would lose a significant chunk of its funding because Northern Ireland served as a backdrop for dramatic scenes in the show and the European Union subsidised costs of the production.

The show is also filmed on location in Spain‚ Croatia and Malta – the cost of which is partially covered by the European Regional Development Fund.

“In the event of Brexit‚ the fund‚ which is designed to boost the European economy‚ would be unlikely to continue to foot a portion of the bill for filming there‚” reported The Telegraph on Thursday.

Stars such as Benedict Cumberbatch‚ Keira Knightley and Helena Bonham Carter‚ signed a letter published by the newspaper saying Britain should remain in the EU.

“Leaving Europe would be a leap into the unknown for millions of people across the U.K. who work in the creative industries‚ and for the millions more at home and abroad who benefit from the growth and vibrancy of Britain’s cultural sector‚” said the letter.
