“Shout out to 90%. We going back into studio to work even harder ”

TMG Entertainment caught up with Pearl Thusi‚ DJ Tira and Mampintsha backstage at the SAMA awards and collectively‚ they shared their thoughts on the current state of the music industry in South Africa‚ claiming that all is going fairly well.

“I think the music is growing‚ and it’s growing very well‚” Pearl explained.

The radio personality revealed that despite the fact that some genres are struggling‚ many others are on the rise.

“Not all genres can be at the top at the same time‚ but hip-hop is doing really well. RnB could be doing better‚” she said‚ before pointing out that gospel is always doing well.

Big Nuz member Mampintsha quickly chipped in‚ explaining that Kwaito is also at the top of its game.

“We sell platinums and golds‚ ever since we’ve started singing‚” he revealed.

In addition‚ he expressed his confidence in local music at the moment.

“What is meant to happen‚ is happening. We are very confident in the 90% local quota. We like it very much‚ and we are very happy.”

Pearl came back into the conversation‚ claiming that there is a lot of investment being placed in local music.

“There’s a lot of money being put in. The music videos and the production quality has improved‚” she said.

Afrotainment’s DJ Tira‚ who was reeling with excitement after Big Nuz’s Best Kwaito Album win at the awards‚ also shared the same sentiments about the gradual growth of local music.

“The state of the music industry is moving‚ and very well‚” he weighed in.

“Shout out to 90%. We going back into studio to work even harder.”
