DJ Maphorisa talks about his contribution to Drake’s new album Views

Renowned South African music producer DJ Maphorisa discusses his successful career in a new radio interview.

Talking to Gareth Cliff on Cliff Central on Thursday, Maphorisa opens up about his illustrious music career highlighting his work with artists such as Kwesta, Mafikizolo, Professor, Wizkid and Oskido.

Maphorisa, who affirms that his focus now is on working with African artists, recalls hanging out with American R&B crooner Chris Brown when he was in South Africa last year.

“Chris Brown when he was in South Africa, he brought Wizkid on stage. He was in Durban, so Wizkid was in Durban. That’s how it was. He introduced me, he said: ‘this is my producer’. That was dope,” Maphorisa mentions.

“He is a cool guy. He has too much energy. He likes to dance. We were in the VIP area during the concert and he was practicing there. We listened to his new music.”

Furthermore, Maphorisa details his contribution to the song One Dance appearing on Canadian rapper Drake’s new album Views.

Maphorisa clarifies that although he had a hand in making the song he was not the main producer on the track featuring Nigerian superstar Wizkid.

“We did something small, when I was in LA with Wizkid. He sent something to Wizkid, because I’m always with Wizkid I just added some few things,” Maphorisa modestly says.

“Actually I didn’t produce the song. I did [get credit] just a small thing. 40and Nineteen85 are the main producers. That song is a remix, because it was an up-tempo Garage sound. They took that song from Kylie Minogue. It’s a sample, they just down-tempo(ed) the song.”
