On Monday night DJ Bongz became the talk of Mzansi after revealing the retail price for his now infamous gwara gwara caps. R800 and a picture of the cap was all it took for Black Twitter to unite in attack. Now‚ four days after all the dramz‚ the DJ has released a statement saying it was a publicity stunt to get people talking.
Taking to his Facebook page‚ Bongz insists that making the price outlandish was all part of the plan. He not only expected the response‚ but also wanted it.
Uh‚ okay.
“Monday night I released one of the biggest campaigns in SA — the infamous ?#?Gwaragwara?? caps... Everything that happened afterwards was all according plan. I knew that a scandal would attract much hype. It’s not your fault that you don’t see value in your OWN people‚ brands and yourselves. It’s a result of centuries of indoctrination that as a black child you should train yourself to be a good servant (now that physical slaves have been abolished but MENTAL SLAVERY TOOK OVER).”
In a long (really long) post on his Facebook fan page‚ Bongz takes big hits at what he calls a culture of white supremacy in South Africa.
“The media continues today to be an instrumental tool in the sustenance of white supremacy. THEY OWNEThis has been achieved by white people taking away your resources‚ your land‚ giving you an image of a White God to pray to‚ to make you believe that you are inferior‚ you are not beautiful‚ associating anything “BLACK” with evil and negativity‚ making us believe that all superheroes are white and thina we should just sit back and watch them flourish in our own land!!!”
He then makes reference to Sbu and Cassper Nyovest who have both faced naysayers.
“Next time u see DJ Sbu Online selling his MoFaya don’t laugh and try to bring him down‚ if you can support him just shut up n let they guy do his thing. I mean that is what freedom is all about!
Next time you see Cassper Nyovest saying “He should be treated like Beyoncè IN HIS OWN COUNTRY” don’t post hateful stuff. Yin ewrong lapho? The boy is a young King kumele simunakekele la Ekhaya‚ where else should he be idolized for his work?! IF YOU CAN’T SUPPORT A HUSTLER THAT’S FINE BUT DONT STAND IN THEIR WAY!!!!”
