Veteran actress Connie Chiume is set to leave Rhythm City.

For nine years, Chiume played the role of matriarch Mamokete Khuse on the e.tv soapie. Viewers grew to love her as the show's moral compass since its inception.

Chiume's exit on Wednesday promises to be explosive, resulting in the return of her on-screen children Zenzo Ngqobe and Nokuthula Ledwaba for cameo appearances.

"It's a bit sad to leave the show because I have worked with those people for so many years. "They are like my second family. Shooting the last scene was hard, because you know after this you have to start a new page in your life. A new page comes with fear, risks and doubt. You don't know where to start because you were used to this particular routine," Chiume says.

"Mostly, I will miss my Khuse family - the unity and the laughs. The cooperation with these actors was pleasurable."

Chiume points out that the most memorable storyline for her was when it emerged that her first-born child was fathered by her husband's brother.

"Mamokete had always captured the moral fibre of the family and community. It was the first time that she was flawed. She stood her ground as a woman and came out stronger than ever," she recalls.

Throughout her tenure on the soapie, Chiume worked closely with actor Setlhabi Taunyane, who portrayed her on-screen husband Kop. She has nothing but praise for Taunyane.

"Taunyane was a joy to work with. We never had a fallout. He has never been late for work. You know how inconveniencing it is to come to work and have to wait for someone who is late? He is very professional.

"A disciplined actor, always on- point with his lines and character. We complemented each other so well. I wouldn't mind working with him in the future."

Chiume is already plotting her return to television and says "It will be soon".
