Kwaito veteran Mduduzi Tshabalala‚ popularly known as Mandoza‚ has found a new lease on life after emerging victorious against cancer.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment Mandoza’s wife Mpho revealed that the Nkalakatha hitmaker is doing well after battling cancer for most of 2015.

 Mandoza’s health challenges came into the spotlight last year after he was rushed to hospital twice in the space of two months.

 At the time Mandoza’s family reportedly attributed the musician’s health scares to a problem with his sinuses. In July last year the musician apparently underwent a sinus operation after collapsing at his home.

 “We first found out that he had cancer in May last year after he went for a number of tests‚” Mpho told TMG Entertainment.

 Mpho explained that they wanted to keep the news out of the public eye so that they could focus on him getting better.

 “He suffered with his eyes for a few months and was in-and-out of hospital until doctors detected the cancer. Luckily they detected it early and he was able to go for treatment immediately‚” said Mpho.

 The musician’s wife says that he has undergone several months of treatments and is doing much better.

“He has officially been declared cancer free‚ which is amazing. Mandoza is doing much better and is even back in studio working on new music.”

 Mpho said that when doctors told Mandoza that he’s cancer free‚ he reacted like a child with a sweet.

 “There’s no other way to describe it other than he was overjoyed. He always says that he is happy that he didn’t become a victim of cancer and that he won the battle‚” Mpho said.

 Mandoza’s wife explained that even though their family has been through many challenges‚ it is with “God’s grace” that they continue to pass these tests. She added that he is also working with cancer organisations to help raise awareness. “He wants to educate people about cancer. If doctors didn’t detect the cancer early he could have died. He wants people to move away from the stigma that comes with such diseases.”
