Zakwe 'numb' following exclusion from Hottest MC list

Days after getting knocked off the hottest MC list, Zakwe revived himself with a memorable performance at the annual South African hip hop concert Maftown Heights on Friday.

Zakwe, who featured at Maftown Heights for the first time, performed to a lively crowd that sang along to all of his raps - something he found surprising.

"I'm very blessed, from the crowd response, it's been amazing. Thank you so much to the guys who called me up here. The crowd response was amazing, I didn't know people understand punchlines like this," he said.

Responding to a question about him being knocked off the MTV Base Hottest MC list, Zakwe said that he does not know how he feels.

"Eish I don't know how I feel, It's more like I'm numb in a way."

Zakwe was first placed on the number 10 position before getting knocked off by L-Tido. Cassper Nyovest was crowned the winner and was - to a lot of people's shock - congratulated by Mr Cashtime KO during his performance at Maftown Heights.

Without mentioning names, he said that there are people who should not have even made the list.

"Looking at the list, I feel that there are rappers who should not even be there, I'm not gonna say names but that's how I feel.

"In terms of that criteria and the judges, I don't blame them they did and it's done," Zakwe added.

He said he feels he has had a great year and should have been featured on the list on "any position, even if it was number 10".

Similar to responses the controversial list received last year which saw a lot of freestyles, the list this year is no different.

Television personality and co-Director of Parental Advisory Productions Siyabonga 'Scoop' Ngwekazi said that he does not agree with the list.

"I don't agree with the list, (if I came up with the list) some people would've been way up in their position than they are now and some people positions would've been swapped around with people who are already mentioned on the list right now.

"I think that anytime a list is done by any corporate, any channel or any radio station or anybody, I think it's a good look. People will never agree with it of course. So It's only natural when things don't get agreed upon but I think if hip hop garners a list and the whole nation is talking, I think that's a good look," he said.
