Londiwe Masondo is one of eight new members of Gospel powerhouse group Joyous Celebration.

Masondo, a self taught musician in her late twenties is ecstatic that she is part of the group.  Her joy is quite evident as we converse over the phone, Masondo is in Kwa Zulu Natal currently.

Masondo tells me that her parents are both pastors and singing is something she and her siblings, four including her twin, have been doing all their lives.

She takes joy in her music, people began to recognise her talent and slowly calls to help coach people to sing began pouring in. Soon Masondo was helping whole worship teams to fine tune their sound, singing is her bread and butter.

Strangely she tells me, she has never auditioned for any singing competition ever in her life until this. Even then it wasn’t her that initiated it, she merrily recounts how her friends heard about Joyous holding auditions in the cities that they toured. Her friends applied for her and she gathered up the courage to go to the audition and was successful.  During our conversation I asked Londiwe when she knew she wanted to sing for Joyous.

“From a tender age I use to admire uMam’ Rebecca and I tried imitating her and then Joyous Celebration came along with a different sound, Joyous when Margret and Nokukhanya were still around. I then had the desire that hopefully one day I would sing for Joyous and wow here I am today.”

Londiwe lets slip that she is terrified of rejection hence the never going to auditions. I want to know from her what is she bringing that is different to the group.

“My voice is hoarse but I’m a soprano but I’d like to believe I’m bringing a different but not so different sound, just different enough because they would not have taken me if I sounded exactly like someone who is already in the group.”

Londiwe expressed that she is very thankful for the opportunity of being in the group.

“I’m getting to learn and growing as a vocalist and as a person one day when /if I decide to venture out and do my own thing, it’s a very good platform a good place to begin. It opens up doors and also opens up your mind. I’m super thankful.”

MTN Joyous Celebration will be recording their Joyous 20 LIVE CD & DVD on Saturday the 19th of December 2015 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The historical show will mark the first ever outdoor live recording for Joyous Celebration.

Tickets are sold at Computicket from R280.00
