The Soil is nominated in the best international act category in this year's Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards, but group member Ntsika Ngxanga says they may have to organise a concert to raise funds to attend the event in Los Angeles next month.

"We haven't received our travelling arrangements, so we don't know whether they'll send us three tickets because usually with groups they choose one of us to attend," he said, adding that they wanted to attend the awards together as a group.

Ngxanga said they wouldn't mind organising a fundraiser because it was "fun".

However, they are hoping that on the night of the awards they will all be in the US since they have a performance the Apollo Theatre in NY around those dates.

"We just need to confirm everything, but we'll be performing at the Apollo again."

He said their tours abroad had helped them receive more international recognition.

"When I first heard the news that we're nominated I was driving, Buhle was home cooking while Phindo was in bed because he's nursing the flu. We're all overjoyed by the nomination."

What makes the nomination special is that AKA also received a nod in the same category.

"They could've just picked one artist from South Africa, but they picked two of us, which is amazing. This means people are listening."

The group leaves for Paris tomorrow . "We really give glory to God for the nomination. These are the necessary steps one needs to take if one wants to be a legend."
