Smut and filth not for Emkay

NO BEN 10: 'Skeem Saam' star Mlungisi Mathe
NO BEN 10: 'Skeem Saam' star Mlungisi Mathe

His Facebook inbox is flooded with nude selfies from over-eager women of all ages and sizes. He had to change his cellphone number because of the endless calls from women volunteering themselves for a night of passion with him.

This has been the rude awakening to fame that Skeem Saam star Mlungisi Mathe has had to endure.

Mathe, 24, plays Emkay on the SABC1 soapie and has seen the darker, intrusive and smutty side of fame.

Speaking to Sowetan, Mathe said he was bombarded.

"I get a lot of proposals, most of them are scary and weird. Some of the requests they make ... I don't even know what to say... What is this, can a person who is normal say something like this?" he chuckled.

He coyly shared: "They (women) don't know how to behave around me when they see me. They propose and make me offers, like 'can you be my Ben 10', 'can I have you for just one night, one night only'. They are way too old.

"I am a straightforward guy. I know they are doing this just to satisfy themselves. They don't care about Mlungisi, they care about Emkay a lot."

Mathe said he was always "hit on" by older women, even before he joined Skeem Saam.

"Funnily enough, they think I am 19. They want to buy me material stuff. Some will say 'can I buy you a cellphone' and I will say 'I have a cellphone, you can't give me what I have'," Mathe says.

Though he is not interested in dating gay men, that has not stopped them from throwing themselves at him at clubs.

Mathe grew up in Zonkizizwe, Katlehong on the East Rand, but is originally from KwaZulu-Natal.

His role as Emkay is that of a corrupt and womanising varsity student. He stresses that he is very different, a former church youth leader and a preacher.
