South Africa's favourite gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration return to bless their followers this Easter at Carnival City as they launch their 19th album and DVD.

The album, titled Back to the Cross, was recorded over three nights last December at Grace Bible Church in Soweto.

"It was the first time we shot in the township," said Lindelani Mkhize, who founded the group with Jabu Hlongwane and Mthunzi Namba.

The special Easter concert runs from tomorrow until Sunday.

The DVD was shot a month after the untimely death of Lihle Mbanjwa, who was involved in a motor accident with Sabu Satsha, the group's drummer, who spent some time in hospital recovering.

"We were all emotional about her passing, it was very difficult. That's why we dedicate this album to her. We paid tribute to her during the recording, which people will see in the DVD," said Mkhize.

He added that Satsha has recovered and started performing again.

Ever since their inception, the group has continued to win gospel fans over with their contemporary compositions and exceptional vocals. It is seen as a launching pad for musicians who have gone on to become household names, artists such as Ntokozo Mbambo and her husband Nqubeko Mbatha, Thabo Mdluli, Margaret Motsage and Sharon Dee.

lBack to the Cross Easter Launch is at Big Top Arena in Carnival City tomorrow until Sunday at 7.30pm. Tickets are R180 at Computicket.
