TELEVISION and radio personality Linda Sibiya appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit court in Johannesburg on a fraud rap yesterday.
He was granted bail of R20000. Court documents reveal that Sibiya is accused along with a Lwazi Thathakahle of theft after they allegedly swindled a leading clothing retail group of R1.8-million.
It is alleged that Thathakahle, who was the head of department at Edcon at the time, misrepresented the company in a deal that would see Sibiya, through his company Magic Entertainment, organise an event in honour of Ukhozi FM employees. Edcon then paid R1.8-million between January and July 2013 towards the event that never took place.
Sibiya has since declined to comment.
It was reported in the past that Sibiya parted ways with Ukhozi FM because of fraud allegations.
In 2013, he began a new chapter by presenting Mzansi Magic's talk show Sifun'ukwazi. He now hosts the breakfast show on Vuma FM after joining the regional station last July.
